Dover man's death ruled a homicide; authorities looking into self-defense - The Union Leader

Monday, March 13, 2017

Assistant Attorney General Susan Morrell said.Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Jennie Duval determined that Michael Barrett, 22, died from a stab wound.Police found Barrett dead at 18 Edgewood Road in Durham when they responded to a 911 call for a reported disturbance around 1 a.m. Saturday. At the time, authorities deemed his death "suspicious."Morrell said she couldn’t estimate when authorities would make a decision on whether charges will be filed."I’d just say the case remains under investigation and there is no way to guess at what point that investigation will conclude," she said.No arrests have been made, she said.Authorities on Saturday said they believed they had identified everyone involved and didn’t consider the community to be in any danger.Barrett isn’t a student at the University of New Hampshire; the Edgewood Road address is a private residence.Barrett was involved in a fiery crash in Rye in November 2015 that left him seriously injured.Published reports said Barrett was a passenger in a friend’s sports utility vehicle when it flipped end-over-end and then caught fire.Cody Lowe, then 21, of Rye, pulled Barrett out of the SUV but left him in the road and fled, police said.Barrett spent time in intensive care at a Boston hospital.mcousineau@unionleader.com. ...
