Karoma Cemetery in Goltry under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.Lavatta was born September 11, 1951 in Enid to Thurman and Betty Harman Sparks and passed away June 13, 2017 in the Greenbrier Nursing Home. She attended and graduated from Enid High School in 1969. She received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from East Central University in Ada. Lavatta lived in McAlester where she taught the blind. She moved back to Enid where she worked for DHS teaching the blind. Lavatta attended Community Bible Church and Victory Bible Church. She was an avid swimmer at the YMCA. Lavatta is survived by her mother Betty of Goltry, two sisters Larue Buller and husband Lyle of Enid, Rhonda Sanders and husband Vernon, Jr of Goltry and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds. Lacy E. Cochran, 95, of Mathias, went quietly into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg.Born on June 15, 1921 in Greenbrier County, he was the oldest son of the late David F. and Ada Hankins Cochran.He is preceded in death by 1 son, David; 2 brothers, Joseph and Edward; and 2 sisters, Edith and Glenna.He had a remarkable life growing up in the Depression on a Greenbrier County farm. Inspired by an agriculture teacher, he became the first of his family to attend college. He started at Berea College in Berea, Ky. in 1939.He left school in 1941 to work in the war industry in Baltimore; after being drafted in 1943 he served in the United States Army Chemical Corps, including 21 months in Great Britain. He was discharged as a Master Sergeant in January 1946 and returned to Berea. He met his wife Florence at the college and they were married on July 21, 1946.After graduation in 1947 he took his first teaching job in Greenbrier County in 1947, and moved to Moorefield High School in January 1948.
