Monday, April 03, 2017Ray Whitlock, 79, of Athens, died Monday morning, March 20, 2017, at his home.He was a native and resident of Sweetwater, and a longtime resident of Athens. Ray was the son of the late Hobart Ray Whitlock and Versie Riddle Whitlock Martin. He was also preceded in death by one son, Greg Whitlock; one daughter, Kim Whitlock Altstatt; one sister, Janice Whitlock Jones; and two step-sisters, Meredith Martin Gray and Melinda Martin Pritchett.Ray was a member of First Baptist Church of Niota, as well as a member of BPOE Lodge 1927 and VFW Post 5146. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Meridian Sun Lodge 50 F&AM. He was associated with TSSAA as a football and basketball official for 22 years. He served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 33 years, retiring as a captain, and served in the Tennessee National Guard for eight years.
