Truck driver dies in southern Utah rollover on SR-56 - Salt Lake Tribune

State Route 56 in southern Utah, authorities said.The Utah Highway Patrol said Beryl resident Morris W. Carter was driving west on State Route 56 near mile marker 20 — about 40 miles west of Cedar City — when the crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. He was not wearing a seatbelt.Carter drifted to the right side of the roadway, then corrected back off the left side. He then overcorrected toward the road surface, "but the weight of the load and truck shifted, causing it to tip over and roll onto its side," according to UHP. June 25, 1935—Feb. 17, 2017STANDROD, Utah – Earl Burke Heaton, 81, died peacefully, on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at his home in Standrod, Utah.Burke was born on June 25, 1935, in Cedar City, Utah, to George Earl and Bertha Jolley Heaton. He was the only boy of six children. He grew up in a small southern Utah town called Alton. He moved to Bountiful, Utah, where he met his wife Carolyn Kerr. He married Carolyn Kerr on June 18, 1954, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He ran a dairy farm in Alpine, Utah until 1976, he sold the farm and bought a cattle ranch in Standrod, Utah. He spent his life ranching and farming surrounded by his family.He left a great legacy. He always gave the best advice and was known for his “words of wisdom.” He always said he would like to be remembered as a family person. He had 14 children; 92 grandchildren; and 87 great-grandchildren. He loved his grandkids very much and always knew what was going on in their lives. He loved God and had a strong testimony of trusting in the Lord. He thought that neighbors should take care of each other and help each other out. He loved animals and there are many stories about his sheep, horses, dogs and cat...

A Bureau of Land Management employee died after a 150-foot fall while deer hunting in Kane County on Monday evening.Ryan Shakespear, 42, of Cedar City, was last heard from via radio about 6:30 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from Kane County Sheriff's Office. He had been hunting near Wahweap Wash off of Cottonwood Canyon Road — an area with which he was familiar.His family, worried about heavy rains passing through, searched the area; they called police about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday to report Shakespear overdue.Crews, aided by a helicopter, attempted to locate Shakespeare later in the morning. She and Loyd also farmed for several years.She and Loyd were devout Christians, serving at Elston Baptist Church, Russellville Baptist Church, and Cedar City Baptist Church until the flood of 1993. They were instrumental in helping build Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Holts Summit after the 1993 flood. Allene volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, as a Girls Auxiliary leader through the church for six years, and served as the clerk and treasurer of the Cedar City Baptist Church and Cedar Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting and spending time outdoors in her garden. She cherished time with her family, especially all her nieces and nephews. Survivors include: thirteen nieces and nephews, Carolyn Nichols, David (Linda) Surface, Cheryl Viessman, Janet (Frank) Barnes, Frances Liebi, Alma (Jack) Baldwin, Daniel (Janelle) Meng, Lois Wolfe, Jennifer Bills, Emaline (Richard) French, Saundra (Scott) Hawkins, Janet (Charlie) Brown, and Gail (Michael) Cushing; one cousin, Loretta Schubert; numerous great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and dear friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; her sister, Venita Surface-Hoback; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; one niece, Elizabeth Houghton; one nephew, Gary Meng; and one nephew-in-law, B.
