Monday, October 03, 2016Friday morning in a culvert off Route 9.Peter Nosek, 44, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at around 10:50 a.m. Friday by members of the Bennington Rescue Squad.Police said Nosek was driving west on Route 9 on a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Nosek was riding with two other motorcyclists.The two other riders had passed several westbound vehicles, but when Nosek started to pass, a dump truck came around the corner, police said.Nosek’s motorcycle went off the road from the eastbound lane and traveled about 400 feet before striking a culvert.Police said Nosek was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a large rock.The crash was reported around 10:20 a.m. Friday.Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call State Police at the Shaftsbury Barracks at 442-5421.
Monday, September 26, 2016Kenneth Lee, was born 4/11/44, two months before Germany surrendered. In 1945, Juanita rode a troop train to California and back to visit Kenneth before he shipped out on the U.S.S. Bennington just as Japan surrendered. After his year in the Navy, Kenneth was assigned office manager of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Enid and it became their home for the next 54 years. They marveled as their world became motorized, electrified, and air born. Juanita worked at Hurwitz Men’s Clothiers, Evan’s Drug, and the Oklahoma Employment Commission but her real job was homemaker (seamstress, nurse, dietitian, chauffeur, vet, councilor, historian, innovator, camper and adventurer). In 1974 she joined Kenneth in retirement and they traveled in their motor home from Florida to California, Canada to Mexico and all the family, friends, and interesting sights in all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii. Kenneth and Juanita were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church of Enid. At 80 she rode the mules down the Grand Canyon, at 82, welcomed a new century and a new daughter-in-law when Ken married Mary Stover and they combined their three households, and at 92, after Ken’s death, she moved in with her daughter and son-in -law and became a “Texan” with a shrug and a smile. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F., in 1995, her son, Kenneth L. in 2010. She is survived by her brother, Marvin Lee Wilson, Stillwater, OK, daughter-in-law Mary Whittenberg, Enid, OK, daughter and son-in-law Joy and Glenn Richardson, Longview, TX, granddaughter and husband, Sheryl and Jon Lumbley, Red Oak, TX, grandson and wife, Greg and Carrie Richardson, Round Rock, TX,and four great-grandchildren, J.C. and Kristen Lumbley, Dallas, TX, and Meghan and Ian Richardson, Round Rock, TX. Monday, June 27, 2016Uncle Ha Ha: Fred’s sons, Roger and Rodney; Kenneth’s sons, Mark and Michael; Henry and Jerry Hilderbrand, Patricia Sue Hilderbrand Ewald and Kathryn Hilderbrand Bennington. Harold had a lifelong love of electronics and communication, from building crystal sets as a boy, to repairing appliances as a 16 year old at “Sears Roebuck,” to his 33 years as a Quality Control Technician at General Electric in Salem. He collected minerals, gems and fossils, and carefully curated the trees and plants on his property in Glenvar. He loved history and music and knowing how things are made. He had a lively intellect and an insatiable curiosity. He actively campaigned for many years to have the last two-lane stretch of Route 11 between Glenvar and Salem widened to four lanes. That work was completed in January 2015.Harold enjoyed every day of his military service. He left school at 17 and joined the US Army as a signal corpsman, relaying sensitive information to the Pentagon and finishing school after his service. He traveled the world as a signalman in the US Navy aboard the battleship New Jersey, serving in the Korean War. As a “Seabee” (Naval Construction Battalion), he established communication systems as far afield as the Bahamas and narrowly missed serving in Viet Nam. He also served in the Naval Reserve and the Air Corps Reserve.He shared his zest for life and his many interests with his daughter, Anne, and made certain she appreciated simple pleasures, like catching crawfish and lying in the hayloft to listen to the rain on the tin roof.He’d be pleased if you planted a tree in his honor, or supported your local public radio or TV station.

A tree fell on her cabin at the Jewish summer camp.Related: Girl killed when tree falls on cabin at SE Indiana campCamp officials said a lightning strike toppled a healthy tree, which fell onto the cabin.While no staff members or other campers were injured, Jadyn did not survive her injuries."There are no words to express the sadness that we as a community are feeling right now," Kessler said. "It's just a tremendous, terrible loss."WLWT has learned campers have resumed normal activities at Camp Livingston. Counselors are on hand to help campers and staff deal with the tragedy.The family of the little girl has made plans for a private service, which is scheduled for Thursday.Shiva will be held at her mother's home on the same day.In the meantime, family and friends are expressing their grief on social media.The impact of Jadyn Larky's death has touched many, including the Bexley community in which the Larky family lives."This is a tragic loss," Kessler said.
