Tuesday, April 18, 2017Orleanian, Mr. Bohn started out at Bohn Motor Co., which his father, George Bohn Sr., had founded in the 1920s on South Broad Street near Washington Avenue.From there, he moved to Dick Bohn Ford in Gretna; he and his brother Dick were co-owners. His last stop was a dealership bearing his name, Don Bohn Ford, in Harvey, where he worked with his sons. They bought the dealership when he retired in 1988, Donald Bohn Jr. said.The next generation of Bohns moved beyond Fords, running dealerships that sold Toyotas, Audis, Hyundais, Buicks, Pontiacs and GMC trucks, he said.They don't use the Bohn name on their dealerships, Donald Bohn Jr. said, because they sold that in 2000 to Group 1 Automotive of Houston.Mr. Bohn, who graduated from Jesuit High School and attended Loyola University, served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He spent six months of that stint in the Pacific theater.Survivors include his wife, Mary G. Bohn; three sons, Donald Bohn Jr. of Baton Rouge, and Scott and Van Bohn of Metairie; four daughters, Kathleen Baldwin of New Orleans, Priscilla Dalton of Metairie, Donna Marie Patten of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Theresa Goodman of Santa Fe, New Mexico; four stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.His first marriage, to Kathleen "Kit" Zetzmann Bohn, ended in divorce. Ms. Solomon suggested turning it into a center for senior citizens where they could pass the time and get hot food from the Meals on Wheels program, which Peoples Health supported.As a result, about 150 senior citizens go there every day for fellowship and a hot meal, Murrell said. "That's an example of her ability to think about the greater good and how the people she worked with could come together."Ms. Solomon also got her company involved in backing worthy activities, such as the New Orleans Opera Association. Peoples Health was "one of our most consistent long-running sponsors," said Todd Simmons, an opera association spokesman."Carol believed that what were doing was good for the community, and that was why she supported us," he said. "She believed in supporting every facet of the community that she could."Ms. Solomon, who was born Carol Ann Thomas in New York City, started out in the savings and loan industry, working as an accountant before becoming a controller and, later, administrator of a hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla., until it was sold.She did consulting for hospitals in south Florida before being named vice president of operations for CAC-Ramsay, which was the second-largest HMO in the state. It was sold to United Healthcare.In Louisiana, Ms. Solomon was chief executive officer of MedFirst Health Plans, and she directed the development of a pilot managed-care program at LSU Medical Center (now LSU Health Sciences Center).In 2004 and 2006, she was named one of New Orleans CityBusiness' Women of the Year, and she received the top honor in 2008. In 2010, to mark the magazine's 30th anniversary, Ms. Solomon was named one of its 30 Driving Forces honorees.Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Solomon Long of New Orleans; a brother, Joseph Thomas of Miami; a sister, Diana Embi of Miami; and a grandchild.Funeral arrangements, which are being handled by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, are incomplete.
