Veterans can now be cremated with an American Flag in Grundy County.Grundy County Coroner John Callahan said the new program was a joint effort by UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home and the Morris American Legion.Your browser does not support the audio element.Callahan says some veterans have expressed interest.Your browser does not support the audio element.Callahan said this service would not affect any flag benefit offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.The funeral home and American Legion are located on Washington Street in Morris.

He was the son of the late Lee Grant & Elizabeth Pearl Lush Grant.Mr. Grant was also preceded in death by, sons-in-law; Bart Smith and Keith Bratcher; siblings, Alberta Grundy, Carolyn Drane, Estelle McFadden, Bobby Grant, James Grant and Wilford Grant and his wife's parents; Shelby & Mary Richard Sims.Mr. Grant was retired as owner/operator of Grant's Concrete Construction and a farmer. MORRIS – Anyone who has spent much time at the Grundy County Fairgrounds, whether at the fair itself or at the Grundy County Speedway for the weekly stock car races, has seen or spoken to Burdette Carter.Carter was a fixture at the fairgrounds, riding his golf cart around the property while taking care of just about everything.Carter died on Sunday at the age of 84 at his home in Mazon.All his life, Carter was very active in stock car racing and county fairs throughout the state.Early in his life, he visited county fairs, showing sheep at livestock exhibitions. His love for county fairs continued for more than 60 years with the Grundy County Fair, both in Mazon and Morris.He served on the Grundy County Fair Board in many capacities, including secretary, treasurer and vice president.
