Monday, May 01, 2017Paul, as a child, tutored adults and children who needed assistance manipulating a mechanical prosthesis on behalf of the March of Dimes. He greatly enjoyed traveling with family to New York City, Halifax, Montreal, California and his epic snowboard excursions to Wyoming and Colorado.Professionally, he was recognized as one of Aquidneck Island’s most skilled bicycle mechanics and builder of bicycles. He mentored numerous budding bicycle mechanics throughout the last three decades. He skillfully applied his crafts at Ten Speed Spokes, Island Sports, and Newport Bicycle. Paul administered an after school program on bike repairs for students at Sullivan Elementary School, and was he was the personal bike mechanic to numerous Newporters, including Senator Claiborne Pell.He had a passion for adventure sports. Paul was free and happy when car hopping, riding mini-bikes, skateboarding, mountain biking, snowboarding and ocean kayaking with friends. Throughout his life he loved attending rock and roll concerts – slam dancing in the mosh pit with his friends, siblings, nieces and nephews and his son, Kyle. But his most precious moments were spent with family in his home, Newport. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 1:00-3:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a memorial service to take place at 3:00pm in the funeral home.Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the March of Dimes Birth Defects, Foundation of Rhode Island Chapter, 400 Reservoir Avenue, Providence, RI 02903, or to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.Share this:Comments comments...
Tuesday, April 18, 2017Ryland Otie Clark Sr.She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church.She was also a retired Meadville Elementary School bus driver and cafeteria employee for over 30 years with the Halifax County School System.She is survived by two sons, Ryland Otie Clark Jr. and wife Nancie, of Nathalie and Fred Scott Clark and wife Beverly of Nathalie; one daughter, Dianne Clark Garrett, of Nathalie; seven grandchildren, Ryland Otie Clark III of Nathalie, David Newton Clark and wife Samantha of Nathalie, Stephanie Ann Clark of Nathalie, Billy Joe Garrett and wife Kerrie of Keysville, Cullen Carl Clark of Nathalie, Sam Owen Clark of Nathalie and Isaac Scott Clark of Nathalie; two great-grandchildren, Gavin Garrett and Anna Kate Clark; one step granddaughter, Shavonne Garrett; three step-great grandchildren, Dylan Eanes, Si’ena Garrett and Bruce Williams.She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Harris and Faye Francis, and two brothers, Jake Murphy and Roland Murphy.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Catawba Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shea, the Rev. LeRoy Davis and the Rev. P.A. Sunday, February 12, 2017Local media outlets report 62-year-old Harold Lee Massey was charged Tuesday with 50 counts of indecent liberties with a minor.Massey also faces 31 counts of statutory sexual offense. Authorities in Halifax County say the charges stem from a six-year period beginning in 2006, when the child involved was 7 years old.Massey was released Wednesday on $250,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court February 15. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.Massey operates Massey Funeral Home. His website describes him as an "accomplished musician" best known for gospel music.
Monday, November 14, 2016Tower Hill School in Wilmington, DE and a 1950 graduate of Wellesley College. She is survived by her children John R. Steenburg of Sagamore Hills, OH and Andrea J. Simmers of Halifax, PA (Steve). Also surviving are her niece, Judy Marshall Ferraro (Jeff), three granddaughters and four great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and also a gifted seamstress. Ms. Marshall was also a lifelong devotee of the fine arts, particularly live opera. She volunteered tirelessly at Opera Omaha and Opera Delaware. Later in her life, Ms. Marshall also worked at The Enchanted Owl and Resettlers, Inc., both in the Wilmington, DE area. Her broad interests and cheerful disposition won Ms. Marshall many dear friends wherever she lived throughout her lifetime. She was a bright light to many. Her family is thankful for the wonderful care she received at Blakehurst, where she also established deep friendships with many of the employees. She will be missed by many. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at Clearfield Bible Church, 1303 Old Westminster Pike, Westminster, MD on November 11, 2016 at 2pm. Interrment at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine, 8 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, DE on November 12, 2016 at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Opera Delaware, Opera Omaha, Blakehurst Employees Scholarship Fund or an organization of the donor's choosing.
