Cochran, 95, of Mathias, went quietly into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg.Born on June 15, 1921 in Greenbrier County, he was the oldest son of the late David F. and Ada Hankins Cochran.He is preceded in death by 1 son, David; 2 brothers, Joseph and Edward; and 2 sisters, Edith and Glenna.He had a remarkable life growing up in the Depression on a Greenbrier County farm. Inspired by an agriculture teacher, he became the first of his family to attend college. He started at Berea College in Berea, Ky. in 1939.He left school in 1941 to work in the war industry in Baltimore; after being drafted in 1943 he served in the United States Army Chemical Corps, including 21 months in Great Britain. He was discharged as a Master Sergeant in January 1946 and returned to Berea. He met his wife Florence at the college and they were married on July 21, 1946.After graduation in 1947 he took his first teaching job in Greenbrier County in 1947, and moved to Moorefield High School in January 1948. Monday, January 30, 2017All District and Central Virginia Baseball. He was a member of the Charlottesville Church of the Brethren. Ryan was presently employed with Massanutten Resort in Harrisonburg. He was formerly employed by George Mason Mortgage and later he was hired by Countrywide Mortgage in northern Virginia as a loan officer where he received numerous awards. To list a few, he was awarded the Circle of Excellence, Consumer Markets Division from Countrywide in 2003, Top Emerging Markets Volume from Countrywide Home Loans in 2004, and Diamond Award Loan Production Council for excellence in mortgage banking in 2006. At the end of his mortgage career, he was appointed Vice-President of George Mason Mortgage. He is survived by his parents, Clinton Elwood Spencer Jr. and Judy Shifflett Spencer of Madison; his aunt, Brenda Neofotis and husband Nick of Charlottesville; and their sons, Mark Neofotis of Harrisonburg, Chris Neofotis of Centreville; his uncle, Ronald Allen Spencer and wife Donna of Troy and their children, Ron Spencer and wife Kelly of Gordonsville, and Greg Spencer and wife Tonya of Keswick. He dearly loved a very special 11 year old young lady named Talia. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Holly Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Reggie Copeland will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

He is survived by his parents, Clinton Elwood Spencer Jr. and Judy Shifflett Spencer of Madison; his aunt, Brenda Neofotis and husband Nick of Charlottesville; and their sons, Mark Neofotis of Harrisonburg, Chris Neofotis of Centreville; his uncle, Ronald Allen Spencer and wife Donna of Troy and their children, Ron Spencer and wife Kelly of Gordonsville, and Greg Spencer and wife Tonya of Keswick. He dearly loved a very special 11 year old young lady named Talia. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Holly Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Reggie Copeland will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
