Saturday, June 10, 2017Friday as word spread of the death of Dante Latora, the Portage Central High School student and standout wrestler killed in a car crash in Virginia.Dante, 17, was bound for Virginia Beach and the NHSCA National Wrestling tournament there this weekend when his car left I-95 and crashed into a tree at around 12 a.m. March 23. His family and friends learned of his death Thursday morning, authorities said.Langeland Family Funeral Homes will be handing funeral arrangements, but no obituary or service information is yet available, staff there said.In Virginia Beach on Friday morning, participants observed a moment of silence in Dante's memory before the wrestling tournament began, according to Virginia Beach Convention Center staff.Back in Portage, students from Portage Northern High School across town wore blue and gold, Portage Central's school colors, as a tribute to their classmate, a gesture that brought tears to the eyes of Portage Central principal Eric Alburtus, he said. Leketa and his wife Melanie J. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Cynthia A. Leketa of Auburn, Massachusetts, and a sister, Rita Lynch and her husband James Lynch of West Boylston. He leaves seven grandchildren Stacy Mongeau, Shane Leketa, Sherry Leketa, Sonya Crane, Stephanie Cleek, Sara Leketa and Anthony F. Leketa, Junior. He also was great-grandfather to ten great grandchildren and leaves numerous nieces and nephews.We will all miss our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
