Monday, January 09, 2017Joel Burns.She worked for many years as a secretary for the Hedman Engineering Co. for several years before retiring in 1983.Anna was a member of the Silverdale Baptist Church for many years where she was an active member of the Open Door Sunday School Class.In August of 2015, Anna moved from her residence of 50 years into the Creekside Retirement Homes where she resided until her death.Anna’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home on State Route 153.The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Anna Burns, in lieu of flowers, can do so to the Silverdale Baptist Church 7236 Bonny Oaks Dr. Chattanooga, TN 37421. Monday, July 18, 2016County Quilters of Cassville; Town and County Quilt Guild of Joplin; Mercy Prestige; Rhonda Fairchild Chapter of NSDAR, twenty-year member; Disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary; VFW Auxiliary #492, Silverdale, WA; lifemember, 50 plus years; American Legions Auxiliary Department of MO, 50 plus years; Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #192, Bremerton, WA, 62 year member; National Association of Federal Employees MOChapter #19, life member; Good Sams Club, Englewood, CO., fifty years; Round Prairie Extension Club of Sarcoxie, MO. Completed the yarn council of America course of Master Teacher of Crocheting and Knitting thru the Jasper County Extension Service, MO. She freely taught many old and young people over the years. She was a member of the Sarcoxie Church of the Nazarene (New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene) serving in past years as church secretary and board member. She attended Senior Adult (Primetimers) retreats in the Joplin District Church of Nazarene every year from 1987-2014. She attended Carthage First Church of the Nazarene and B.A.S.I.C. Sunday School Class, Carthage, MO. She started Prayer Shawl Ministry at Carthage First Church of Nazarene from 2007-2010. Rev and Mrs. Joe Lee Tompkins asked Alta to assist and she was in charge of the construction of the retirement quilt for Joplin District Superintendent Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Pal and Jan Wright, along with several others, she did most of the hand quilting. Quilt blocks were submitted by each church on the district, plus corner blocks were decided by Alta, when completed it made a king size quilt.She was preceded in death by one step son, Raymond Baldwin; two brothers and their wives, Cloren and Jean Meade and Byron and Gwen Meade; and one sister, Kathleen Meade.Alta is survived by her daughter, Donna Baldwin, of the home; two step-daughters, Helen Nickels and Arlene Scott; numerous step grand, great and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.Funeral services for Alta are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 in the chapel of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, Sarcoxie, MO with Reverend Jim Dillow officiating. Burial to follow in Sarcoxie Cemetery.Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions have been directed to the Potter’s House of Springfield, MO in care of the funeral home.
