Sunday, February 12, 2017Members of the Deerfield Police Department and the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Department will take part in a basketball game Friday to benefit the family of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.The game is scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. Friday at the Berto Center, 550 Lake Cook Road in Deerfield. Sean Cannon, CEO of Event Creative, which owns the complex, said this will be the last basketball game played on the court that served as the Bulls' practice facility for more than two decades."We decided this would be a great way to do a benefit for his family," said Cannon, whose firm is co-sponsoring the event along with Epic Fitness.Gliniewicz, 52, was found shot to death on Sept. 1, shortly after he radioed in he was going to pursue three subjects. His death in line of duty sparked an extensive manhunt, and thousands from across the country attended his funeral on Sept. 7 in Antioch. She was born April 20, 1937 in Chicago to Joseph and Evelyn (nee Bowles) Butera, Sr. She is survived by her loving family; sons, Burl Mason, Jr. and Tom (Kim) Mason; grandchildren, Nicholas Mason, Austin Mason, Kaylee Mason and Jonathan Mason; great granddaughters, Danielle Mason and Destiny Mason; sister, Connie (Midge); brother, Joseph Butera, Jr., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Burl Mason, Sr.; brother, Anthony Butera; sisters, Mary McQuade and Evelyn Butera. Services are private.
Monday, October 24, 2016An 18-mile-long procession of law-enforcement vehicles led the way for the hearse carrying the body of Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz to his final resting place at Hillside East Cemetery in Antioch on Monday evening.The funeral procession arrived at the cemetery about 6 p.m. and graveside services got underway about 6:45 p.m., according to Stephanie Barrons, of Antioch, who watched the procession and burial with her husband, Kevin, from across the street from the cemetery.Gliniewicz was buried with full, traditional military honors. There were bagpipes, a color guard, the playing of “Taps” and a 21-gun salute. Family members encircled Gliniewicz’s casket under a large, blue tent and police officers surrounded them, at least 20 rows deep, she said.“There were six or seven helicopters which flew straight, and one veered right to signify the missing man,” Barrons said. “It was phenomenal.”Barrons, whose son Matthew went to high school with Gliniewicz’s son D.J., said that she felt honored to be a part of something so important for the community.“This is something I will neve...

Monday, September 26, 2016Tina Marie Rodriguez, 54, of Fox Lake, went home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2016 at Journey Care Hospice in Woodstock. She was born on August 9, 1962 in Chicago. On March 24, 1984, Tina married the love of her life, Rogelio Rodriguez. Tina loved and lived for her family, especially her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed listening to songs by Engelbert Humperdinck, and loved to host her annual Luau parties, where she would totally decorate the whole house inside out. Tina worked for 15 years at Brown Paper Goods in Waukegan until February 2016. She leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband of 33 years, Rogelio Rodriguez; two daughters, Teresa (Jabier) Santos and Miranda Rodriguez; five grandchildren, Lizandra Barajas, Rogelio Barajas, Brianna Santos, Layla Santos and Isabella Santos; two sisters, Carol Ann Camm and Julie (George) Shamblin; step-sister, Sherri Pote; many nieces and nephews.
