Two men — one from Auburn and the other from Newcastle – are dead after the boat they were in capsized on a turbulent stretch of coastal river in Oregon.The Coos County Sheriff’s Office said that Chandler Richard “Rick” Dann, 59, of Auburn and John Douglas Sherman, also 59, of Newcastle, died after the small recreational boat they were in capsized on the Coquille River near the bar on the South Jetty. The area is about 40 miles due west of Roseburg and 60 miles north of the California-Oregon state line.Dann had lived in Auburn since 1987 and was in the process of renovating a retirement home on the Oregon coast. A Georgetown Medical School graduate, Dann practiced preventive medicine in Roseville.A third occupant of the boat – William Fredrick Lamica of Reedsport, Ore – also was killed in the accident, the Sheriff’s Office said. The three were the lone people onboard.According to the Dann family, Rick Dann was doing what he loved – fishing – when the accident resulted in his death and the deaths of two of his friends.The South Je...

Marron, Joanna M. Age 93 Of Newcastle, NE passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in an Omaha, NE hospital after a brief illness. Joanna was born August 3, 1923 in rural Newcastle; she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Doyle) Mannion. She was raised on a farm in rural Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1940. Joanna married Joseph H. Marron June 10, 1947 in Newcastle; he passed away on January 14, 1982 in Sioux City. Joanna was employed by the American State Bank in Newcastle for 30 years. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Krause and her husband Gary of Omaha, Joseph Marron of Lincoln, NE, Michael Marron of Omaha; 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; her sisters-in-law, Faye Marron, Betty Slagle, Bonnie Lowe (Jim); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
